Top Tips For Dealing With Annoying Coworkers

Okay. We are human beings. Strange creatures, we, and as such, we all have foibles and idiosyncrasies that you might not realize or notice yourself. These quirks in the workplace could be considered annoying in the eyes of your coworkers. You probably can think of at least one annoying coworker right now. It is just a fact of life and if you haven’t had to deal with annoying coworkers at least once in your work career, than you might be a flying pig.

They come in many shapes and sizes. For example, the gossiper, the loud-talker, the know-it-all, the too-much-information giver, the whiner/complainer just to name a few. All can get under your skin while really affecting your work and productivity. However, there are ways to deal with annoying coworkers.

Annoying Coworker

Be assertive – Chances are, the annoying coworker doesn’t know they are annoying. Be firm, yet friendly and ask the person right out to stop what they are doing that is annoying. Announce that you are really busy and concentrating and would be really nice of them to quiet down or have their personal phone call elsewhere. Better yet, explain to your supervisor/HR department the situation and have them ask to cease and desist. Your supervisor is most likely already aware of it!

Positivity – Sometimes the old adage, “kill it with kindness” still rings true. A warm smile and friendly disposition can smooth over almost any situation no matter how awkward. If Captain Bring-down is bringing you down, stay sunny and counteract it with a positive spin.

Avoid/Ignore – For as long as you can, try to avoid the person as much as humanly possible. Take your lunch at a different time. Take the stairs rather than the elevator. Park your car elsewhere. You get the idea. It gets tough when the person is in your direct vicinity like in a “cube-style” office, so best options are to use headphones to tune them out or see if you can look in to a seating arrangement change. Of course there is a breaking point for everyone but hold out as long as you can. If you can get up and walk away from the person for a little while, try that. Hopefully when you return they will have stopped.

Breathe! – If it becomes unbearable and you are about to boil over and burst, don’t! Close your eyes. Relax your muscles and place your hands palm up in your lap. Take a deep breath in through your nose and count to five. Exhale slowly through your mouth (trying not to disturb others) and repeat until you feel a sense of calm and collection. Rinse and repeat until enlightenment is reached or at least until you can continue your work without going insane. A walk outside or around the office grounds is another surefire way to clear your head and give a new perspective to the situation. Some fresh air can do wonders.

Toughen up – To be honest, can it really be that bad? Okay, maybe it is but come on. You only have to work with this person. You don’t have to interact with them in any way shape or form outside of work. They are not your significant other, they are not a family member or loved one… So, deal with it! A thicker skin might do you some good and build some character. Guess what? It’s life! You are not always going to love every single detail of every single facet of your life. The sooner you realize this and keep it in mind, the easier it will be to deal with any person, annoying or not. Remember, the annoyed can also be the annoyee. You might be annoyed by someone but just as easily, you can be annoying someone yourself.

Christmas Cards- Still a Good Business Decision

Many difficult decisions have to be made by the average business owner on a daily basis. In this economy, where every day there are reports that the market is on a downturn and also that another recession is on the horizon, these decisions must be made carefully. So as the leaves begin to turn colors, and the crisp air greets us as we close the door behind us, the decision about how to handle the Christmas cards decision looms. As a small business owner, each one of these decisions must be made with great care.

Holiday Sleigh Card

One of the best principles I have always maintained through the years is to always let my employees know how much I depend on them and how appreciative I am of their hard work and loyalty to our business. The service they give to our customers comes back to us many times over in repeat business. Our customers are our bread and butter and without good service, they will go elsewhere.

Another principle I have maintained is to do everything I can to keep our business name out there so our customers old and new are reminded of the great service they have received. One of the ways I do this is with corporate Christmas cards. I am a fond believer in the value of calendar cards. I have searched for the best quality cards available with a design that our customers will want to hang on their wall and The Gallery Collection is always the winner. Their beautiful designs help us to remind our customers of our business and our well wishes, but they also serve as a constant reminder, on a daily basis, of the excellent service from some good friends. It is money well spent in a time when every penny counts. The eternal optimist in me knows good quality, good wishes and good advertising will keep us going.

Business Christmas Cards to Brighten Up The Season

I don’t know about you, but I love the Christmas season. There’s so much to celebrate, so much to anticipate, so much to enjoy. Of course it’s also a very hectic time of year that sometimes gets under our skin, but nonetheless, it is a great time of year. I love the look on my children’s faces as they open up their presents under the tree. I love counting down until the big day with all my employees at work. I love the feeling of making my yearly Christmas donation to our favorite local charity. I also love hearing my customers rave about how perfect, elegant and classy my business Christmas cards are every year. Every year I take pride in picking out a design I know my customers will love even more than the one they loved the year before. It’s a personal goal of mine to keep them in awe with the quality that our company is all about. And for a professional company, we need the best cards out there. The Gallery Collection is all that and more. And for the price they are truly a steal. I usually buy in bulk, so the cards end up being a great deal, especially considering the amazing quality of the cards themselves.

Joyous Wreath Holiday Card

This year, since things are going well for us and business is finally taking off again, we’ve decided to try Thanksgiving cards as well as Christmas cards. I’m sure our customers will be thrilled to receive their Thanksgiving cards in the mail and I’m anxious to hear what they think about them. We chose a lovely elegant design with leaves and gold foil on the front of the cards. Both of these holidays are excellent times to reach out to your customer base and let them know that you appreciate them, and furthermore, care about them and their family enough to extend some wishes and blessings. This is the season of sincerity; don’t leave room for people to speculate that you sincerely don’t care about them.

Create-A-Greeting-Card Scholarship Look Back Series – 2007 Winning Design

Welcome back to another installment of our Create-A-Greeting-Card Scholarship Contest Look Back Series. 2007 was the first year that we started running an annual scholarship contest and we weren’t exactly sure what to expect. Since we are constantly on the lookout for ways to give back, we thought this was an excellent way to help a student that tied in perfectly with our products. It was our goal to inspire the youth to recognize quality and beauty and to capture it, whether that be in the form of a simple digital photo or a finished piece of art from their art class or computer lab.

We were all nervous because we were not sure how it was going to turn out but in the end we were blown away by the response. We received over 15,000 entries in that first year! It caused us all to take a step back and really see that this was something that clearly needed to continue. In the end, Elizabeth Digre was selected as the winner for her beautiful entry depicting a stunning winter scene of a lake surrounded by snow covered trees and the sun shining through the branches.

After the entry was selected as the winner, our artists turned it into the stunning Season’s Greetings Golden Snowscape Card.

The card was stamped with gold refractive foil and enhanced with some embossing (raising some details of the image to give it a three dimensional effect). The gold foil was used to accentuate the snow covering the trees to really make the design pop. A frame was also added around the image to draw the attention to the beautiful winter scene. Once we saw the final product we knew that this contest was something that needed to continue.

Sympathy Cards – Thoughts That Can’t Be Erased

As my parents have grown older, so have their friends. It seems like my Mother was making many monthly trips to express her condolences at our nearby funeral home. The family who loses a loved one has so many arrangements to make within several days and life becomes surreal. The chaos of a funeral viewing and the verbal expression and sympathies coming from so many friends within a short time period erases the faces of those who came to remember. It’s so important to send sympathy cards to let the families of lost loved ones know you stopped by to pay your respects.

Sympathy Cards

Every so often, someone in the work place loses a family member, another reality of our lives. Business sympathy cards are a special way of providing continued comfort to a co-worker and their family. We may not know this person personally, but we become connected through the work place. Giving or receiving a sympathy card from a work acquaintance can build a special bond between friends in the office. Verbal expressions of sorrow are caring, but a sympathy card brings thoughts of compassion that can’t be erased. Your thoughtfulness will always remain with your family or friends.

Gallery Collection Charitable Donations – Juvenile Diabetes Cure Alliance

The Juvenile Diabetes Cure Alliance wants to help end diabetes in our lifetime. Their mission is to direct donor contributions to the charitable organizations that most effectively fund research with the goal of delivering a type 1 Practical Cure by 2025.

Thank You Greeting Cards

As part of our charitable contribution efforts, The Gallery Collection is extremely pleased to make a donation of 100 Thank You cards to the JDCA. This will aid them in sharing their thanks with supporters while their funds can continue to help bring a cure to type 1 diabetes.

The Gallery Collection knows that a card can make a difference. When you let people know that you are appreciative of their support it can be beneficial to everyone involved. And we are proud to help bridge that gap.

Birthday Cards Offer A Way To Stay Connected To Employees

So many companies have gone global and/or allow so many employees to telecommute that it is often difficult to make everyone feel like they are all part of the same team. People work in different time zones and on very different schedules. Global companies also have different locations celebrating different holidays, so they can’t necessarily wish all of them a happy Thanksgiving on the last Thursday in November! An easy way to ensure you get to wish each and every one of your employees well during the year is to send them each a birthday card. Your employees will know the company is thinking of them and it will help them feel more connected to the company. Also, employees may even appreciate receiving  birthday cards even more than they would appreciate a holiday card, as the birthday card is to celebrate their own personal special day.

Happy Birthday To You

In order to make sure you never miss an employee’s birthday (or a friend or family member’s birthday either!), keeping a box of assorted birthday cards on hand at all times. That way, you will not only always be assured of having cards in stock and won’t have to run out to the card store every other day, but you will also have a varied selection of cards to choose from. Personally selecting a card from a box of assorted birthday cards for each employee makes it even more special, as they won’t all get the same card.
